Full day trip from Whitney to Preston
Starting at the grade two listed Whitney toll bridge originally built in 1779, the route takes you on a quiet stretch of the river; passing the Scar at Brobury and the famous Georgian estate of Moccas. This leg boasts lots or wildlife with kingfishers, sand Martins, otters and herons spotted regularly.
What the route offers:
This full-day stretch gives you time to properly settle into the rhythm of the River Wye. Expect a wonderfully varied day of paddling.
Starting at the historic wooden toll bridge at Whitney on Wye, the route winds its way passing the Scar at Brobury and the famous Georgian estate of Moccas.
There are passages where you can relax into an easy pace, mixed with more energetic water, wide lively bends and constantly changing scenery that keep the journey feeling fresh. You can even stop for a swim or picnic on the beach at Bredwardine Bridge.
From the viewpoint of your canoe, this is a brilliant route for seeing the amazing wildlife on the Wye, with jumping fish, kingfishers, otters, herons and cormorants.
